Grant J Robson presents a new album “LIT BY THE DARK”
Glasgow multi-instrumentalist and composer Grant J Robson releases his 4th album, “Lit by the Dark” on 3 August 2021. It contains the previously released singles “Kill the Night” featuring Glasgow artist Bob Carey-Grieve and London based audio manipulator Shiggi Pakter and “The Burden” featuring The Vaselines’ Eugene Kelly.
The album is a homage to the thoughts that possess us during the night and the other-worldliness of the twilight hours. It features eight tracks including three collaborations.
The track “Breathe” features broadcaster Dominik Diamond narrating his words over Grant’s music. “Dominik’s long battle with insomnia means he has a different relationship with the night” says Robson. “He’s managed to perfectly convey the struggles and revelations that he faces during those dark hours”.
“Collaboration was key for Lit by the Dark. I knew that I wanted the album to be about the night. Hearing Bob’s lyrics for ‘Kill the Night’ and Dominik’s thoughts on ‘Breathe’ was an inspiration and drive that took me on a more focused path. I needed to produce music that could walk tall alongside their performances” says Grant. “Working with Eugene made sense. We had performed a track in 2001 at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut which we never recorded and it felt (to me) like unfinished business. I asked him, he said yes, and we recorded ‘The Burden’. That simple and professional. No drama.”
The other five tracks are instrumentals including “It Should Be 10 o’clock” inspired by and featuring Grant’s daughter, Jenny, “Light It Up” a paired down lo-fi lullaby, and “Count the Times” with it’s dawn inspiration and uplifting melody.
Recorded in Grant’s studio in Bridge of Weir, and with collaborations recorded in London, Glasgow and Australia, “Lit By The Dark” will be available on this website, Bandcamp, Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, and wherever you stream your music from.
